9/11 2001

I thought I would do a little thing for 9/11 today since it is 9/11. A day like today makes you appreciate life and the loved ones you have. I was listening to Michael Smerconish this morning and he said something that really made me think. He was talking about the day and night before 9/11 and how no one remembers what they did that day. As he ate dinner with his family last night he said he was thinking about how thousands of people did the same in 2001 not knowing it was going to be be their last. It makes you think that you should cherish everything you have and the loved ones in your life, and don't take things for granted. I try not to go to be angry at someone because you just never know. All the rescue workers went into those buildings with no thought of their own lives, the only thing they were thinking about was getting people out alive. Thinking about it, I don't know if I could do that. Knowing those buildings were death traps, I know I couldn't do it. That is what makes these men true heroes!!!!! Keith Olbermann said that playing videos of that day is disrespecting the the families of the victims of that day. Well I could not disagree more. I think it is a great tribute to all of the people who gave their lives or had their life taken. I don't think we should ever forget this day in 2001 which has been the biggest incident of my short life. I work with a couple of men who were Verizon techs in NYC on 9/11 and later transferred to our garage who were there that close by that day and helped in recovery efforts. These guys also helped get communications back up in NYC and they will tell you to always remember.
My family and I took a trip to NYC that winter and saw ground zero. The thing I think I most about that trip to New York was the wall with all of the pictures of the missing people posted by loved ones and friends. Me along with all the other people at the wall found ourselves looking at all the pictures and reading the messages along with those pictures. The more I think about it the more sad and upset I get.
I just thought it was appropriate to post something about 9/11 today so I did. I hope to get out to the memorial in Pennsylvania sometime hopefully sooner than later

Wow, I am glad that we took that trip to NY. I didn't realize how much that visit impacted you. I watch the History Channel last night and feel very strongly that the video, and still pictures should be shown every year on 9/11 to every public school child. I hear that some schools feel that children born after 9/11 wouldn't understand and would be bad for them. What trash, I still can't understand the deliberate taking of over 3,000 innocent lives to make a political and religious point. I also can't beleive how people forgot how they felt that day and how they wanted the President to whatever it took to take out the terrorist and the governments that supported terrorist. As far as Keith Oberman goes, well freedom of speach goes for everyone, but what a wack job.

Wow, what a moving post. We are reflected at work yesterday and had a moment of silence. What a sad day. I think we will all remember that day. You are right it does make you appreciate what you have. Thanks Keith for reminding us all what is important in life.

Thank you for this great post Keith.
I too think we all need to remember!
Unfortunately it seems that it is easy for the general public to become complacent over time and just forget..... I don't believe we can ever let that happen in this case.
I agree completely with pop pa and yes, Keith Oberman is quite the whack job isn't he?.
Thanks again for this moving post Keith.

Very nice post, Keith. One example of how we've forgotten is what happened on 9/11 this year in my office. Nothing. I have to say that I didn't even realize it was 9/11 because we didn't have any moment of silence or anything...which I think was a real shame.

Thanks for your thoughts about this. I agree that every year the videos and pictures should be shown. We can't forget...
